how to participate

You can help integrate the arts into public education in your community! Encourage your children or students to compose songs, poems, stories, journals, music, dances, plays, or create a quilt, pottery and other crafts, photographs, videos, paintings, sculptures, gourmet meals, maps, maybe even start their own garage band!

Support the teachers' efforts.

Join the School Board.

Write letters to the editors of your local newspapers, on topics such as:

“What happens to local culture without the arts being taught in schools?”
“What I have observed about my child's involvement in learning because of music & art"
“Is my child being being "left behind" without enough art and music in the school system?”

ST. MICHAEL'S COLLEGE - GRADUATE SCHOOL - ART IN EDUCATION

“The arts are among the resources through which individuals recreate themselves. The work of art is a process that culminates in a new art form. That art form is the recreation of the individual. Recreation is a form of re-creation. The arts are among the most powerful means of promoting re-creation. Those of us who have worked in the arts, who have taught in the arts, who have tried to understand what the arts contribute to the development of human consciousness can feel a sense of pride that our legacy is one that attempts to engender life at its most vital level. The arts make such vitality possible. They are sources of deep enrichment for all of us.”
